The Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking an Employer Services Technician.  This work is focused on providing technical support to the State of Maine, teacher and participating local district employers within the Employer Services Division.  The incumbent must have knowledge of the statutes governing and the rules and regulations pertaining to the System.  Responsibilities include determining compliance in reporting through review and analysis of payroll report information and forms.  Incumbent also serves as primary liaison for a number of assigned employer payroll reporting contacts.

Qualifications:
A high school diploma is required plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience in an office environment or A.S. degree in accounting or business administration.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Office work experience that demonstrates data gathering skills, the ability to apply complex mathematical computations, familiarity with the use of computers and specialized software, and the ability to retrieve information by utilizing a wide variety of resources.

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking a Disability Specialist. The primary role of the position is oversight and evaluation of applications for disability retirement within the fiduciary responsibility of the System.  Tasks include the following:  reviewing and analyzing medical reports and employment histories; eliciting relevant information from applicants/recipients and employers in interviews and otherwise; presenting facts and consulting with the Medical Board to interpret the records gathered and identify the functional limitations of the specific conditions; acts as designee to the Executive Director regarding eligibility and continuing eligibility for disability benefits.  A Disability Specialist works as part of a team, but must be able to work independently with a solution driven mindset.  Success in the position requires the ability to quickly adapt when work tasks or priorities need to change during a day.  Along with other skills, curious, analytical and detail oriented individuals typically thrive in these positions.
Specific projects and areas of concentration are assigned as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

·        Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience–OR-

·        Associate’s degree in a relevant field and five years of complex administrative or technical experience.  

·        At least one (1) year of experience must be in the application of complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

·        Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and writing skills.

·        Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with diverse populations including physically and mentally incapacitated persons.

·        Must be skilled in operating word processing and other office automation equipment and be capable of extended periods of time engaged in computer terminal operations.

 

Additional Desired Qualifications: 

·        Experience which demonstrates interviewing and other skills necessary to evaluate medical reports and related data to make complex determinations of eligibility for benefits or services.

·        Experience relating to disability determination or vocational rehabilitation.

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking an Insurance Programs Business Unit Leader. Under the general direction of a senior manager, this position is responsible for understanding and providing guidance regarding all the work that must be accomplished in the Insurance Programs Unit, where focused responsibilities reside.  This position is the subject matter expert regarding the processes and legal provisions that apply to completion of that work.  The incumbent is the primary technical resource relied on by staff and management regarding work that is within the scope of this position.  Success in this position requires that technical and interpersonal skill be consistently exercised in a manner that guarantees the delivery of expected results and ongoing collaboration with their Team Administrator.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  •  Associates degree in a relevant field with at least three (3) years of experience as the subject matter expert regarding the duties described in the classification statement; OR,

  •  At least 5-years of experience as the subject matter expert regarding the duties described in the classification statement
