August 13, 2020 - FY 22 and FY23 Teacher Employer Contribution Rates
MainePERS has uploaded FY22 and FY23 employer contribution rates for teachers to our website. You can find them by clicking on the "Teacher" link that is shown under the "Emp. Contribution Rates" on the left side of the page. Remember, normal cost contributions are due on all eligible teacher members. For those teachers whose positions are funded by grants, the additional administration rate and UAL rate are also due. Please contact your employer services representative if you have questions.

August 4, 2020 - July GLI Invoices 
July invoices are now available in ESS. This invoice covers the premiums for the entire month of July (1-31). Please note, you will find your GLI Invoice under the Document section of ESS. If you have any questions about your bill please email us. 

July 27, 2020 - PLD Consolidated Plan Employers - Notice of Changes to MainePERS Rule Chapter 803
Effective July 18, 2020, changes were made to the rule that governs the PLD Consolidated Plan to provide temporary relief from the date requirements for local districts to join or make plan changes.

July 20, 2020 - FY 21 Employer Contribution Rates, Electronic Payments and Mailing Address 
  • Effective July 1, 2020, new FY 21 Employer contribution rates. Under the "Quick Links"  section on the Employer Homepage are the contribution rates for State, Teacher and Consolidated PLD employers. Please update your payroll software.
  • Reminder: Effective December 31, 2020, MainePERS will require all pension contribution and GLI premium payments to be made electronically, we encourage our employers who still pay by check to switch soon.
  • When mailing any correspondence or payments to us, please use our P.O. Box address.

A letter and flier were sent to all employers not currently making electronic payments to MainePERS, discussing benefits of electronic payment and MainePERS' requirement that all payments be made electronically by December 31, 2020.

October 12, 2018 - Employer Self-Service Login

The way you log into the MainePERS Employer Self Service (ESS) portal is about to change.  It’s a change that makes your employee payroll data more secure.

As a user, your system login will soon include a second level of security.  After following the ESS login procedure you’re used to (user name/password then clicking the (login button), you will be directed to a screen that allows additional security authentication to occur.  That screen looks like this:

On this screen, simply click “Call Me” and wait for your phone to ring.  When you pick up the call, press 1 on the phone’s keypad and the system automatically takes you to your ESS account.

  The person you normally contact at MainePERS regarding your account can also help with any login questions or problems.  Give us a call at 207.512.3200.

Login Frequency.
  Registered users who have not accessed ESS at least two (2) times during the three-months preceding a review will be considered for removal from the group of licensees. Security Administrators with be required to login in once every six months.

Information.
  Detailed user guides and other information regarding this authentication process is posted in the ESS portal.  Keep an eye out for email from us with other news or information about this authentication process or the status of the portal.


September 24, 2018 - Retired Returned to Work Employees of PLDs 

This is a follow up to the information we sent you on September 14, 2018 regarding upcoming pension plan changes for Participating Local Districts (PLD’s) in the consolidated plan.

The MainePERS Board of Trustees has now approved changes that apply to employees who retire and are rehired by a PLD.  Starting with October 2018 payroll reporting, employers must remit a contribution toward the unfunded actuarial liability (UAL) of the plan that is equal to 5% of earnable compensation for each retiree who becomes employed as a Retiree Return to Work (RRTW) on or after October 2nd, 2018.  These new RRTW employees must be reported on your monthly payroll with a Rate Schedule Number (RSN) of 96.  Any RRTW employee in a position on or before October 1, 2018 is grandfathered until June 30, 2021, and will continue to be reported with a RSN of 53.  Grandfathering means that no UAL payment is required on these employees until 2021.  Any future change to the RRTW UAL rate will be communicated at the same time other PLD contribution rates are updated.

Employer Self Service (ESS) is experiencing technical issues and you may find that you are unable to log-in after business hours. Should you encounter this issue please try again at a later time. We expect these outages to last only through the overnight but they may continue for several nights. We will notify you once this issue has been resolved and ESS is completely restored.
