One of the benefits available to MainePERS members is the Group Life Insurance program. The program is available to State, Teacher and those PLD employees whose employers have elected to participate in the program, and whose positions are eligible for coverage.

Thinking about retiring?
Did you know that Group Life Insurance coverage may be available to you in retirement? In order to qualify for free basic coverage during retirement, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Participate in Group Life Insurance coverage with MainePERS for at least 120 months throughout your career
- Coverage must be in effect and all premiums must be paid when you terminate employment
- Your retirement application must be received by MainePERS no later than 31 days after you terminate employment
- Your retirement effective date must be within 31 days of terminating employment
